Vincent LÜBECK 1654 -1740
Young Vincent Lübeck, who had a precocious talent, was was appointed incumbent organist of the renowned organ in Saint Cosmas and Damian in Stade, Northern Germany. His brilliant reputation will bring him to the organ of Saint Nikolaus in Hamburg, the largest organ built by Arp Schnitger- 62 stops on 4 keyboards- where he will be the organist until his death, he was 86 years old! His colleague Johann-Adam REINCKEN, who was also an organist in Hamburg died at 99 years old!
We find in LÜBECK'work all the lexikon of the stylus phantasticus of the North, the light in Ostfiresland, the poetry and the exhilarating extravagance of the music of Northern Germany, as well for manual keyboards as fothe parts in double pedal.
His exhuberance in the chorale « Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ » represents one of the most beautiful work of art in Northern Germany, synthesizing Sweelinck's Flemish art and the Italian taste on the basis of a Lutheran chorale.
